As available burial space within Pine Haven Cemetery became increasingly limited, the Town of Burlington engaged RDLA to develop a new landscape for alternative interment that would expand capacity while maintaining the quiet, contemplative character of the cemetery.
RDLA designed a meditative columbarium garden organized around granite-faced columbarium walls, seating and a gently moving water feature. Katsura trees provide shade, seasonal color and a strong landscape framework, while carefully integrated planting and stone create intimate spaces for remembrance and reflection.
The garden demonstrates how new interment options can be sensitively incorporated into an established municipal cemetery while creating a dignified landscape for future generations.
